Blanket Distributed for 225 Cold-wave Affected Households of Morang

In response to the harsh winter conditions affecting vulnerable communities, a collaborative effort between local government authorities, Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Nepal, and the Nepal Evangelical Lutheran Church/Lutheran Community Welfare Society (NELC/LCWS) has successfully completed 2 events of Blanket Distribution Program in Morang. The initiative aimed to provide warmth and comfort to 225 households, including 35 males and 190 females in Morang, particularly focusing on individuals vulnerable to the chilling effects of the ongoing cold-wave.

The distribution program was carried out in two phases, targeting Jahada Rural Municipality 7 and Rangeli Municipality 2 of Morang. A total of 100 households in Jahada Rural Municipality and 125 households in Rangeli Municipality 2 were provided with blankets during the events.

The primary beneficiaries of this emergency relief distribution initiative included people with disabilities (PwDs), maternal/pregnant women, single women, and senior citizens. Through the program, 45 PwDs, 56 maternal/pregnant women, 34 single women, and 90 senior citizens were recipients of the much-needed blankets.

The distribution events witnessed the active participation of key figures, including representatives from the local government, security forces- Armed Police Force (APF), and NELC/LCWS. Mrs. Hanna Soren, Deputy Mayor of Jahada Rural Municipality; Mr. Bhagawan Marandi, Ward President of Jahada 7; Mr. Santalal Khawas, Ward President of Rangeli 2, alongside other dedicated ward members, joined Bishop Joseph Soren, President of NELC/LCWS; Mr. Joel Soren, Program Coordinator of LCWS, and additional staff members during the distribution program.

The successful execution of the program was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the local government, which had identified the urgent need for blanket distribution. The events were accomplished with the support of a basket fund managed by NELC/LCWS under the Churches & Emergencies (C&E) project.

During speech, Mrs. Hanna Soren, Deputy Mayor of Jahada Rural Municipality said- ‘This humanitarian initiative not only provided physical warmth to those in need but also symbolized the strength of community collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the marginalized and underserved populations during adverse weather conditions. The Blanket Distribution Program stands as a testament to the collective commitment to social welfare and the well-being of all community members, fostering resilience and solidarity in the face of challenging circumstances.’
