Shankar Prasad, 45, lives in Morang district’s Kanepokhari RM 1 Daleli. He has a family of five people, which includes his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. He had gone abroad for work but returned and has been growing vegetables on his small plot of land, which his wife equally supports.
Shanker was elected chairperson of the local Rimjhim Farmer’s Group by LCWS, LWF Nepal’s implementing partner. The group received assistance in the form of vegetable farming techniques, seeds, irrigation assistance, spray tanks, and other agricultural equipment. Shanker was one of six people in the group who began semi-commercial farming after completing their training. He earned around NPR 100,000 from his vegetable farm in a season (four months). He was also given the opportunity to participate in other trainings on commercial vegetable farming organized by the local government. He used the skills and knowledge he gained from the trainings he attended to invest in non-seasonal vegetable farming.

The group develops proposals requesting assistance and support from relevant stakeholders for farming so that they can improve their farming skills and earn enough to support their families. LWF Nepal also assisted seven people from the group through its LICED Project through LCWS for tunnel farming, where farmers received necessary items such as plastics and bamboo, among other things.
“I had no experience in tunnel farming previously,” Shanker explained, “but with the support of LCWS, LWF, and the local government, I gained a lot of knowledge and skills in tunnel farming.” I used to grow vegetables in the traditional manner, but the trainings inspired me to expand my vegetable farming through modern methods.”
