Medicate Mosquito Nets Distribution for 168 Households of Jhapa and Morang Districts by LCWS/LWF Nepal

Lutheran Community Welfare Society (LCWS) has distributed medicated mosquito nets for 168 households in Jhapa and Morang districts, with technical and financial support from Lutheran World Federation Nepal. This initiative, is aligned with the 44th Social Service Day celebration campaign of the Social Welfare Council (SWC) for the year 2023, and the campaign’s slogan is: “National Commitment for Sustainable Development and Participation of Organizations to Achieve the Targets.”

The distribution program was held at Kanepokhari 2 Daleli and Kanepokhari 1 Hoklabari of Morang on 28 September 2023. Similarly, the program has been accomplished in Shivasatakshi 4 Biswadubba on 29 September 2023. 82 households of Kanepokhari 2; 61 households of Kanepokhari 1 and, 25 households of Shivsatakshi 4 have received 1 set of medicated mosquito nets.

This initiative was a collaborative effort, with active involvement from local government representatives, LCWS volunteers, social mobilizers, program officers, and executive members. The primary focus of the program was to benefit vulnerable groups, including children, individuals with disabilities, expectant mothers, pregnant women, single women, marginalized families, and senior citizens.

Importantly, the program comes at a critical time when the Dengue epidemic is spreading within the community, posing a significant risk to vulnerable populations. The distribution of medicated mosquito nets is expected to play a vital role in preventing and mitigating the spread of Dengue viral fever among these at-risk groups.

Ratna Bahadur Karki, ward president of Kanepokhari 1, Hoklabari, said- “The Dengue pandemic, which initially emerged in Dharan, is now spreading upon our areas, significantly impacting vulnerable individuals. I hope that such distribution programs will prove pivotal in preventing and mitigating Dengue fever.”

Sarita Kisku, a pregnant woman from Hoklabari, shared her gratitude, saying, “I am overjoyed to receive this set of mosquito nets. The one we had at home was old and torn in some areas, and it wasn’t sufficient for my family. I am immensely thankful to the Lutheran Community Welfare Society for this support.”
